Part 1 of 2: Open my iMac Flat Screen (from Spring 2008) and remove hard drive. Hi-Res photos and compatible hard drives at hd.fixmac.info
Video Rating: 4 / 5

I got the iMac back in April, and hundreds (not exaggerating) of you wanted to see a review. So here it is! NOTE: this computer has been updated. I recommend it even more now. The 21.5 inch model is great, and the 27 inch model is a powerhouse. It’s a good computer for both consumers and professionals. Thanks – the apple dealer here made it out to be such a challenge that I put it off for a year. But I was reluctant to spend the money on the labor. After watching your vids I jumped in and did it. Worked great.

Plus I am watching this because I blew the output sound. Any suggestions? Do I replace the sound card? How? Because i do not have output sound, I am watching not hearing……Thanks

Thanks. This shit looks complicated as hell I might just have some Apple people take a look at it. I’d never be able to reconnect all that jazz. All this work for me to do just to dust it out and change the thermal paste/clean the cpu cooler, jesus. :/

Very useful and simplistic video — thanks. Question, why did you try to use the torx from the long end to remove the screws? Any allen type tool has greater torque by using the short end.

@mvm1957 I think if you open it up,or maybe poke a pin in the DVD drive??? I have no idea, I have the new 27″ mid 2011, I don’t even know what your one looks like, I presume it’s is similar, why don’t you contact Apple, or go to a computer repair shop. It might cost a few bucks, but Mac are so worth the money! 🙂

Decided to play it safe with my iMac7,1, since I have TONS of external storage anyway and went with a 1Tb drive only because my system drive was full with Logic Studio and Final Cut. I can verify the WD1002FAEX Black Caviar 64Mb cache drive works fine.. it’s a little noisier but my Mac is 5x faster now so I’m pretty happy 🙂
