review is from: HDE Mini DisplayPort to VGA Female Adapter for Mac (Electronics)

Depending on the Amazon. com dealer you buy from this Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter, you may get different looking products. I’ve written images received from the adapter from an Amazon.com merchant and another from HDE. For both my order came quickly.
In my original post of the product of the first retailers and over 10 + days have purchased property, I explained that it works quite well. The plastic is the fair-to-equal quality compared to the original Apple-branded adapter. Unfortunately, about 2 months later, it has started to fail. I suspect the reason has to do with the cable, is that. Thinner than the Apple-branded edition It could also be due to the fact that I plug / un-plug this device have 5x per week.
Anyway, I decided to give the generic adapters one last try … This time ordering from HDE, I saw a few positive reviews. When I got it, I was pleasantly surprised that this is an almost identical to the Apple-branded adapter (I have uploaded a new picture) looks like. It has worked well so far and compared to my previous generic adapter, it seems a to a slightly better – clearer -. Image
    *** UPDATE *** on 02/06/2011
It was over 9 months since I bought my adapter from HDE, and yes, it works (but with a caveat for some Macbook owners) . I’m posting an update to my original post, because a current Mac OSX 10.6.4 update seems to + the function of all my influences generic Mini DisplayPort adapters have. After reviewing several different retailers (eg, HDE, OWC, Apple) for both VGA and DVI ports on two independently configured 13 “Macbook Pros (mid-2010 models), I could only the latest, original Apple adapter . consistently work
There are at least two separate issues here, and please note that I am not sure whether it applies to all Macbooks:
    1) Old Apple-branded Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter a firmware update (found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3492). Btw, the latest VGA adapter from Apple look a little different … It is slightly smaller and the cable is thin. ” br /> 2) After plugging in a generic adapter has no picture on the second screen and the second screen does not appear in the “Display Preferences” panel. we came across the. for most of the monitors we tested to To resolve this problem, the generic adapter (VGA and DVI) require an OS on each time to get it to work. This was only the case when the adapter is plugged into the computer. We had no problem with putting the computer to sleep, and as you would expect, as soon as the computer detects the second display.
In sum, if you plan to keep the adapter connected to the computer or you do not mind, second, the possibility of restarting every time your ad, I think it is relatively safe, with the generic version of a dealer as HDE (to save some money!) go. Otherwise it could be safe (especially if you own a 13 “Macbook Pro mid -2010 model ) go with the adapter from Apple.
    Hope this helps someone!

I bought this item from HDE knowing that it was by a generic and that some people have problems with the adapter fails. Also I received an adapter dead on arrival. HDE It came in a bag (which on further reflection, leads me to believe that I was sent an adapter from someone else again). After Call technical support for HDE, I was sent a new adapter free. Just make sure that you at least tested a known working monitors and a functioning VGA cable and tell the customer service representative (this as an IT worker, I know that helps in the diagnosis of the problem). Two days later, I received my replacement adapter. This time, it was perfect in a silver, vacuum-packed package with protective shrink-wrap. This adapter works, and therefore I have a four-star rating.
If you are willing to save some money and at the same time the risk of getting a defective product, I recommend this generic from HDE. (If not, get one from Apple). As a side note, if you use problems with your adapter restart your computer with it in. I get my defective one, work in this way, while I was waiting for a replacement plugged

I was actually preparing for this very positive review to give adapter. Then stop working … In the middle of a great presentation. No bends in the cable, no effects, no nothing – just stop working. I bought the official Apple adapter just to make sure that it’s not my laptop – it worked perfectly
I love a good bargain as anyone, but I’m willing to shell out an extra $ 20. for the official Apple version even if it is only 25% more reliable.
