It is an unmanaged switch, so not really much to say about himself. Set
plug in your Ethernet cable, plug into the switch. Search for non-techie significant other could do it.
I was with a four-port switch, but with the addition of a networked TV, blueray player, apple tv … i ran out of available ports.
I ordered it and got the usual super fast delivery from Amazon. Packaging was excellent.
Since I unpacked the switch to the time I was done (including moving the old 4-port switch to the home theater, and you plug in the Apple TV to use wireless), it took 5 minutes.
Yes, there are cheaper switches, but since this switch in a semi-visible area I wanted something that looked a little nicer. After coming from Cisco is just an added bonus.
If you are looking for an 8-port switch, I would recommend the SE2800.

     5.0 out of 5 stars A 2011 Manufactured Wired Switch – SE 1500 – Replaced My Router , 27th October 2011

I replaced my old router, with this SE. 1500 switch a week ago (as of 2011 on the box), without problems There are five ports. I plugged in the Ethernet cable from my modem port 5 and used the other 4 ports for my computer (2 ports are now active – see picture – Blue of the modem).
I can access the Internet simultaneously with both computers. I have. Time Warner Cable, with a strong signal I’m not sure, but I expect that my cable company offers two IP addresses. My Yahoo research after buying it shows a switch can not be used in general (still works), to access the Internet with two computers and a router is required unless (two IP addresses by the ISP I can not confirm or deny this information is provided – I found it on Yahoo) – Seems a little luck worked in my favor
NOTE: I bought at the local Walmart for the same price – (90 day money back guarantee – no questions) – you. to. on line
The switch seems to know that I used port 5 from the modem and taking care of the rest, because they do not have a titled in the port for the modem.

This switch also allows two different computer systems VPN sites for work, to register and to operate – but I was able to – My old router was outdated and the VPN on a computer would not link to my business page access the Internet without logging on to VPN. (Oddly, the other computers via VPN would sign, but another company – I was told it was a security issue with the old router). Now both computers log on the two different corporate VPNs with the SE1500 are

That just saved me pay about $ 500/year, because I do not need for a second cable company modem.
I’m so glad that it is available. I did not want to
wireless. Note: There is no ethernet lights on the back ports for this model. – The Ethernet LEDs flash on the front of the box through the front openings and are enabled / disabled via the switch on the back
I have no overheating problems .. The device is light from the table by the cable on the back lifted
Update -. 5/26/12- So far, so good – no major problems with this product. Both computers are running strong on a daily basis via the Internet and corporate VPNs. A couple of times I did not get cable or low signal warning, but has to restart the modem, switch and computer and everything was fine – not sure if it was the switch or modem. When I called the cable company, they told me that was my modem, it was off-line, so I think it was have the modem …..
NOTE: It seems that Amazon has crossed over reviews of several models SE 1500, SE 2500, etc., which can be confusing for the reader. This review is for the j SE 1500
    Hope this helps.

I do not really into the get configuration of these things. I just wanted it to work and it felt so right out of the box. I just plugged in the power and the Ethernet cable without additional thinking. seems to know which cable is the uplink and automatically takes care of everything. My only complaint is that the activity of the status LEDs on the back, where the cables are. would supply with the flashing lights on the front of more value to the user.
