ASUS X551MA Notebook

Do More, With Less

Featuring a full-sized 15.6 inch HD display and the latest Intel dual core processor, the ASUS X551MA is the perfect everyday notebook with the performance to tackle any task you throw at it— whether you’re studying or just having fun. With crystal-clear sound and picture thanks to ASUS SonicMaster and Splendid Technology, the X551MA’s performance is notable.

Features At-A-Glance:

Design that Fits You

The X551MA features an elegantly textured finish for a comfortable grip while preventing scratches and fingerprints. The matte screen frame and hidden hinge design complete the clean, seamless look and accent the display, which features Splendid video technology. ASUS has developed Splendid Technology to provide four preset modes — Normal, Theater, Vivid, and Manual — to optimize your viewing experience. The X551MA analyzes the image and fine-tunes it to your setting. Now you can study without fatiguing your eyes, scroll through photo albums with richer and more vibrant colors, and watch videos with crystal-clear sharpness and true-to-life visuals.

Providing a Smooth Computing Experience

Whether you’re studying or playing your favorite video game, the X551MA offers the ultimate mix of productivity and entertainment. The latest Intel Celeron N2830 Dual Core Processor lets you use multiple applications without having to worry about lag or killing your battery. Sporting the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II, the X551MA can lasts in standby mode for up to two weeks and wakes up in just 2 seconds. You’ll never wait through frustrating reboot times again or slow transfer speeds for that matter. The X551MA’s USB 3.0 port is up tp 10 times faster than USB 2.0, so you can move a 25GB Blu-ray-quality movie in just 70 seconds. And with built-in VGA and HDMI ports, you can easily connect the X551MA to an external monitor or TV for big-screen entertainment.

An Easy Touch

The X551MA features Smart Gesture technology for easy and smooth touchpad navigation. Pinch-zoom in on pictures, scroll up and down, and swipe quickly between pages without ever needing a mouse. It’s all intuitive, just like navigating your Smartphone or tablet. ASUS has matched the touchpad with a chiclet keyboard that’s been integrated into the body for a seamless, ergonomic design. And with IceCool technology, the X551MA’s palm rest—whose unique internal layout keeps heat-producing parts away from your hands—never rises above body temperature. You’ll be able to work or play for hours.

Hear the World Differently

ASUS’s team of sound engineers has crafted SonicMaster technology to produce high-quality audio output from built-in speakers. The X551MA’s sound chambers are larger — while maintaining the notebook’s thinness — allowing sound waves to fully expand outward. This results in reduced distortion and a deeper, richer bass. With AudioWizard technology, the sound is optimized with five different preset modes that fit your specific needs —whether you’re watching your favorite movie, streaming the latest album, or playing a video game. Now you can hear every word and make out every note even in a noisy setting.

Great for the price *Update 10/5/14: Well, about two and half months after I got it and the wireless adapter has crapped out. Wasted a couple of hours troubleshooting the problem and I am 99% sure that it is a hardware issue. I won’t change my initial review at this point, but this could possibly be a sign of the long-term reliability. I’ll update later.*This is a nice budget laptop for students and/or people just looking for something to do basic computer tasks. I’m a student, and although I already have a nice custom-built desktop computer that I do most of my work on, I felt like I would benefit from having something portable to have in-class or while hanging out on campus. This is, obviously, not a laptop for gaming. Out of curiosity I installed Skyrim on it and surprisingly it did run the game on low settings (albeit not with ideal fps) and it ran Minecraft fairly well (minor stuttering from time to time–but still definitely playable). If you’re buying a laptop with the…

Not tooooo bad. UPDATED 08/09/14:Let me start by saying I am a tech guy, love buying and trying new things. The reason I bought this was to see how something so cheap could be any good. I witnessed how terrible chrome $200 laptops are (if you are smart, you know what I mean). But this laptop is by far a great piece of technology for the price tag of $250-280, if you are on a budget I think you should try this out. I know a lot of you may think because this doesn’t have a touchscreen you shouldn’t get it because of Windows 8… But realize it is very useful even without a touchscreen. I have yet to use windows 8 on a touchscreen(Besides a phone) and I am still in love. So like I said before just give it a try.Pros:Windows 8.1Keyboard, spaced out to perfection IMONUMPAD includedPriceVery LightSleekCan watch Netflix, and Play some games.Games I can play smoothly(All on Low-Med Specs): Minecraft, CS:GO, LOL, and GTA:SA. A nice Budget College Laptop The reason someone would buy this sort of laptop most likely would be for college. The outside and inside really do have a nice aesthetic appearance but doesn’t have the “I spent 800$ vibe to it.” And this is exactly the reason I bought it, college, therefore my review is based on me using it for:-College use-Browsing web/research-Microsoft Office related-Programming-Light to no gaming usage (that is why I have gaming PC!)At this price point and my usage let’s see the pros and cons.PROS:-Very affordable-Decently sturdy/nice screen-Decent specs/plenty of storage/boots up FAST-Updated 8.1 (also a con to some people)-Made by ASUS-Easy to use-Stays cool and quietCONS*:-Ever so slightly heavy-Left and Right click is too hard to press (i have a mouse)-Trackpad is a bit annoying but fine (again i have a mouse)-Charging cable is too snug of a fit,…
